Insurance Coverage
The insurance includes ...
- Third-party insurance
covering persons up to 500,000 Euro
and material damage up to 100,000 Euro
- Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
reducing the customer's financial liability for damages to the rental car
to a maximum of 400.00 Euro
- Theft Liability Waiver (TLW) and Fire Insurance without excess fee
- Passenger accident insurance (except for the driver)
covering the passengers up to 500,000 Euro
- Driver's accident insurance
covering the drivers up to 18,000 Euro
- Glass breakage insurance without excess fee
- Roadside assistance all over Crete by Interamerican
Interamerican currently runs 14 stations in Crete, working 24 hrs.
This way road assistance is ensured even for the most secluded places on the island within max. 2 hrs.
Fully Comprehensive Insurance (FCI)
A Fully Comprehensive Insurance is on offer for an additional fee.
It reduces the liability for damages to the rental car to 0.00 Euro and also covers all damages to tires, wheels and the underbody.
Exclusions
The insurance only covers damages which occur during normal, agreed-upon use of the vehicle.
They will therefore not pay if ...
- the rentee or the authorized driver is driving under the influence of alcohol, hallucinogenic drugs, drugs, or other medication influencing the driver's capability of driving or his senses,
- the rentee, the authorized driver or a passenger deliberately inflicts damage or destroys the vehicle (vandalism),
- anyone else than the persons who are listed in the rental agreement drives the vehicle, or
- the rental contract expired and the vehicle has not been returned to the renter.
Furthermore, the insurance does not cover damages to tires or underneath parts if they result from malicious or grossly negligent actions e.g offroad use, curbstone crash etc.

Key Loss or Damage
The Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) protects you from the financial consequences of accidents.
It does not cover losses of or damages to the keys as those events are not accidental!
To loose the key can become very expensive.
The keys of modern cars are components of the burglar protection systems.

In most cases losing a key will require replacing the entire locking system, and re-programming the immobiliser.
Replacement of damaged keys is not much cheaper.
The blank keys have an integrated electronic component, which has to be adapted to the vehicle's immobiliser encoding.
The car manufacturers' authorized repairers charge high amounts for this kind of services.

In case that you should lock the key in the car, the rental company can help straight.
They will then send an employee with another car to bring the spare key.
The longer the distance to the rental station, the higher are the costs for salary, fuel etc.
The minimum fee for key losses or damages is 70.00 Euros.
