You can pick up and return your Eurocars rental car for your holidays in Sitia in Crete at the airport of Heraklion or the airport of Chania, or at the ports of Heraklion, Rethymnon and Chania/Souda.
The port town of Sitia in the East of the north coast of the island of Crete is the easternmost town in Crete. It is also the smallest of the three cities in the prefecture of Lassithi.
The same administrative district includes the port town of Ierapetra on the south coast, and the port town and district capital of Agios Nicolaos on the Mirambelou Bay.
Sitia is in the true sense of the word off the beaten track. The road from the airport of Heraklion to Agios Nicolaos can be travelled quite quickly, and the first few kilometers from the famous traffic lights south towards Istro are also not too bad.
But then the newly built sections are increasingly getting rare, and as soon as you pass the junction to Ierapetra short after Pachia Ammos, you will get to know the "Old National Road" of Crete in all its beauty.
The extremely winding, narrow road from Pachia Ammos to Sitia is clearly one of the most scenic routes on the island. It sometimes runs immediately on the coast and allows fetching sea views, sometimes it winds through small gorges which have been cut from the Cretan limestone by equally small rivers during ten thousands of years.
You should therefore not try to get from Heraklion to Sitia or vice versa on this road fast. Take your time and watch the beautiful surroundings, and the many picturesque villages through which this main street wiggles its way.

You can order a suiting rental car at the airport of Heraklion in advance on the internet, and it will be ready for you on time on the day of your arrival.
Those who now believe that time stands still in Sitia, are however mistaken. Things do not run in a particularly hectic way here, but the town is not old-fashioned at all.
The port promenade which was newly built in the 1990-ies is at least as attractive as the ones of Chania and Rethymnon are, and with regard to their style and quality, the restaurants along this promenade leave nothing to be desired. The East of the island of Crete has some lifestyle!
